Tech design firm Control Group is working with the New York City MTA to create “On The Go” touchscreen kiosks at subway stations throughout the city. The 47-inch screens will show real-time station directions including transfers and line alerts, arrival times, and service updates. The kiosks will also display ad content to help the MTA draw more ad revenue.

Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism released its annual report Monday on the state of the news media. The study provided an overview of the news industry’s challenges including how newsroom cutbacks are affecting coverage. Social media encourages the digitally savvy to get involved with and support charitable causes, according to a study from Waggener Edstrom Worldwide and Georgetown University’s Center for Social Impact Communication.
The survey, “Digital Persuasion: How Social Media Motivates Action and Drives Support for Causes,” showed that 55% of digitally active, cause-supporting American adults are likely to take action beyond just ‘liking’ a cause online.

To mark International Women’s Day today, Dow Jones celebrates the evolution of women in business, charting some of the most talked-about female executives of the past decade in a multimedia initiative that includes a video and infographic (above). The data is powered by Dow Jones’ research and intelligence tool Factiva. The company mapped media mentions of 20 of the world’s top female executives, including Oprah Winfrey, Marissa Mayer, and Sheryl Sandberg, over the past ten years.
Women’s education and empowerment activist Malala Yousafzai was recognized for her influence as Communicator of the Year at last night’s PRWeek Awards.
